It’s often the first question, and a fair one: before launching a website, you want to know what budget to plan.
The honest answer fits in one sentence: the price of a website depends on what it has to do. A four-page site with a contact form doesn’t cost the same as a bilingual site with online booking.
In this guide, we give you our own prices, what makes a budget change, the costs that come back every year and how to compare two quotes. We don’t quote an “average market price”: scopes differ too much from one offer to another for an average to help you decide.
The short answer: from €1,800 at Kayo
At Kayo Agency, website creation starts at €1,800. This starting price covers a custom website that includes:
- up to 5 pages, excluding legal pages (default value, adjustable in the quote)
- a custom design, not a theme bought and then adapted
- a responsive site, readable on phone, tablet and computer
- a contact form
- basic technical SEO: tags, sitemap and performance
- two rounds of revisions per stage, on the mock-ups and then on development
- the launch, then a 30-day warranty on bugs attributable to our work
No VAT is charged: Kayo Agency operates under the VAT franchise scheme. The final price is always the one in the signed quote.
Three example scopes
To make these figures concrete, here are three common situations in Brussels. They are examples to illustrate the method, not completed projects.
Example 1: a garage that wants to be found and called
A home page, one page per main family of services, an “about” page and a contact page with a form. The garage owner provides the texts and photos. This scope fits within the base website, from €1,800.
Example 2: a beauty salon that wants online booking
Same base, with a booking flow built into the site: clients choose a treatment and a time slot without calling. Booking is an option priced separately in the quote, and the calendar tool has its own subscription, paid by the salon. A deposit paid at the time of booking is a further option.
Example 3: a bilingual restaurant with no time to write
The restaurant wants a site in French and English, and would rather hand over the writing. The multilingual version and copywriting are two options priced separately. Translation isn’t included in the base website: it has to be planned on top.
If your project looks more like an online shop, a web application or a business tool, it’s a different category: at Kayo, these projects start at €4,500. And if you don’t have a logo or brand guidelines yet, a visual identity starts at €1,200.
What changes the budget
From one quote to the next, it’s almost always the same items that move the price:
- The number of pages: each extra page has to be designed, mocked up and developed
- Features: a simple form is nothing like a members’ area or an internal search engine
- Online booking and payment: a flow where visitors book or pay needs more design and testing
- Multiple languages: each language adds content to prepare and check
- Copywriting: by default you provide the texts; if we write them, it’s an option
- Photos: a photo shoot isn’t included, and your images must belong to you or be free to use
- Connections to your tools: linking the site to a calendar, an invoicing tool or a CRM is part of our automation work
- A blog, if you plan to publish regularly
None of these items is mandatory. A good quote starts from your goal (getting calls, receiving bookings, presenting a new offer) and only adds what serves it.
Recurring costs to plan for
The creation price is paid once. Other costs come back every month or every year, and they aren’t always in the web designer’s quote. At Kayo, they are always listed separately, and the accounts are in your name:
- The domain name, in other words your address (for example your-garage.be), renewed every year
- Website hosting
- Any third-party tools: booking calendar, form delivery, audience measurement, online payment
- Maintenance, if you outsource it: at Kayo, €99, €199 or €379 a month depending on the number of small changes included (2, 6 or 12)
- Advertising, if you want campaigns: from €600 a month in fees at Kayo, plus the media budget paid directly to the platforms
Domain, hosting and tool costs depend on the providers chosen. Ask for them to be listed item by item before you sign.
Items people often forget
Some items cost nothing to forget when you sign the quote, but a lot when the site is about to go live:
- The texts: who writes them, and when will they be ready?
- Photos and their usage rights
- Legal pages (legal notice, privacy policy, terms and conditions): provided by you or written as per the quote, you approve their final content
- Translation, if the site is multilingual
- Your approval time: at Kayo, approvals are given in writing, within 5 working days
- After launch: who fixes a bug in three months, who changes your opening hours?
- For a redesign, redirects from the old addresses, so you don’t lose visitors arriving through old links
What about a redesign?
Rebuilding an existing website is priced on quote, after an audit of what exists (€125 for a site not built by Kayo or modified since delivery, not deducted from the quote). The aim is to keep what works, rebuild the rest and plan redirects for the old addresses. The redesign then covers the same items as a new website, on the agreed scope. How to compare two quotes
Two quotes for the same amount can cover very different things. Before comparing prices, compare what’s inside:
- How many pages, and which ones?
- Is the design custom-made, or an adapted theme?
- How many rounds of revisions, and at which stages?
- Who writes the texts, and is translation included?
- What does the “SEO” cover: basic tags, or visibility work followed over time?
- Are domain, hosting and tools listed separately, and whose name are the accounts in?
- Who owns the site once it’s paid for? At Kayo, the rights are transferred to you after full payment
- What warranty after launch, and what does the follow-up cost?
- How is the project paid? At Kayo, under €3,000: 30% on accepting the quote and 70% before going live; from €3,000: 40%, then 30% on approval of the mock-ups and 30% before going live
- Is VAT included, added, or not applicable?
A cheaper quote that leaves out the texts, the warranty or the legal pages can end up costing more than a more complete one.
Key takeaways
- At Kayo, a custom website starts at €1,800, with no VAT charged; the final price is the one in the signed quote
- The budget mainly varies with the number of pages, features, booking or payment, languages and copywriting
- Domain, hosting and third-party tools are recurring costs, to plan separately
- Compare what quotes contain before comparing their amounts
Where to start?
If you already know what you want, a 20-minute call is often enough to frame a quote. If you already have a site and are torn between a redesign, fixes or visibility work, the pre-audit is free: we take a first look at what exists during the 20-minute call. To go further, the Digital Audit (€125) gives you up to three prioritised recommendations in writing.
